Why should you consider automating your data solution?

Really understanding data takes time. This requires gaining deep insights into how data is used, defining data models and iteratively improving them to accurately represent what is - or should be - happening to the data. This process often involves changes to both design and implementation, such as updates to the physical data model or data logistics processes.

Automation offers a powerful way to streamline these changes. To be successful, a comprehensive automated solution must integrate multiple concepts, frameworks and components that work together to adapt to changing business needs at scale and quickly.

This presentation will provide a detailed overview of what it means to introduce automation into data solutions, what it is, when and why it makes sense, and key considerations for success. We will also explore different methods for implementing automation, including process automation and code generation, and discuss practical insights that you can apply to your own data solutions.

Solving the two-project dilemma: optimizing data delivery for business success

How to reduce costs and speed up data delivery by focusing on the essentials - and automating the rest.

Are your employees frustrated by slow data delivery? Are the costs of data preparation too high? We'll show you how you might be juggling two projects at the same time - one aimed at supporting your business with information and the other at developing an IT solution. And guess what? One of them is the main cause of your costs and delays.

In this presentation, we will discuss how to extract value from data by identifying the essential tasks required to achieve this goal. Historically, trying to do all these tasks manually has often led to a high rate of failed projects. We will compare different architectures that have promised to reduce complexity but have often failed to address critical functions. Finally, we will demonstrate how automation can enable you to accomplish all necessary tasks with high quality and low cost - if you tackle the two-project problem.

Automated data vault transformation: redefining data integration in enterprise data warehousing.

Use of data mesh principles and shared responsibility models for scalable, understandable data pipelines.

In this presentation, we will share our successful and innovative approach to the automated transformation of data into Data Vault data products. Given our organizational challenges, we have developed an efficient, standardized and user-friendly process that incorporates domain-specific expertise.

By applying and adapting the Data Mesh principles, we have flexibly adapted our processes and integrated new automation components into our existing ETL framework. Among the other key success factors was the shift to distributed responsibility for data products. This positive change enables us to use new processes and technologies effectively.

Through continuous feedback, we have successfully overcome technological challenges and adapted our automation to our needs. Although we continue to face additional challenges, we are optimistic that we will overcome them and revolutionize the future of data integration!

An automated data warehouse with Data Vault.

Selection of tools and their integration in the company.

The automation of data warehouses (DWA) radically accelerates development. However, before such a tool can be used, it must be selected, and this process takes time. Depending on the company and culture, this can take between 2 months and 2 years. With the infoportal dwa-compare.info, the DDVUG has created the possibility to speed up this process considerably. Here we present the basis for this comparison and give tips on how to select a tool quickly.

Experience shows that accelerated development does not necessarily mean that new data is provided more quickly. Other issues that were previously dealt with in passing are now proving to be time-critical obstacles. Many of these issues are beyond your control. It is therefore advisable to look at the interfaces of the DWH and think about their integration within the company.

This session will focus on the following topics:

  • "Willibald seed and plant trade" as an ideal example of common data problems
  • Tool selection with the comparison based on the Willibald data from dwa-compare.info
  • Interfaces with the data warehouse: integration and expectation management in the company

Automation of data warehouse automation.

A model-driven approach.

In my consulting experience, poorly performing data vault automations often show an excessive presence of hubs and overly complex business rules with numerous dependencies between the data vault and the reports. Hub names often do not match the client's business model and there are discrepancies with the dimensional model.

These problems often lead to longer development times, slower automation software, increased loading times and higher costs for cloud-based data warehouse solutions.

In this presentation, I want to show you how our model-driven approach can feel like the automation of automation and how we can overcome the problems you might have when implementing a poorly performing data vault.

Bridging change with resilience and courage.

Change often feels like walking on a suspension bridge that sways with every uncertain step, especially when it comes to organizational change management (OCM). In this lively and thought-provoking presentation, we will explore how to cross the "valley of despair" with resilience and courage and turn challenging transitions into opportunities for personal and organizational growth.

We begin with the Kubler-Ross Change Curve, a framework for understanding the emotional journey of change. Using the metaphor of a suspension bridge, I share my experiences with the "Many Firsts" mindset - a commitment to embracing new experiences to break out of old patterns. Through humorous true stories, including an unexpected "plane ride" on a streetcar that tested my own resilience, I will illustrate how change helps us build the strength to bounce back quickly from life's surprises.

In addition, I will discuss the importance of "caring and openness" in leadership and show how honesty and empathy create trust, even in challenging situations. By the end of this talk, participants will be inspired to see change not as a threat, but as an opportunity to strengthen their inner resolve and build deeper connections with the people around them.

Join me as we bridge the gap of change together - and discover that each step is less about reaching the other side and more about the resilience we build along the way.
